“I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of our God!” declares Chapter 122 of the Psalms. How amazing that songs have been written about these fifteen words! These were the words ringing in my spirit and mind when I woke up that Sunday morning! It had been a month since I was able to attend church in person. There is something almost unexplainable about coming together in worship. Yes, I have those days when I wake up, and a part of me just wants to stay home. I find that when I push through those times, God gives me a special blessing to carry me through my week!
Hebrews 10:25 (KJV) admonishes us to “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching”. On the days when I would stay home, I hear the spirit call me with these words! Life is full of choices! Love gives us a choice!
Our relationship is private and should be cultivated daily through prayer and Bible study. Seeking the guidance of our loving father. This all takes place outside of the church, or it should. But then we come together to exhort one another! Exhort traces back further to the Latin verb hortari, meaning “to incite to action, urge on, or encourage.” Latin users added the prefix ex- to hortari to intensify it; in essence, exhortari is a succinct way of saying “to really, really urge.” We need each other! Sometimes I can really use that “really, really urging”!
Yes, one person, strong in faith, can influence and lead others, but hear the words of our Savior! Matthew 18: 18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. (This is the work of one)19 Again I say to you, that if two of you shall agree(but the power of two!) on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them. There is just something special about coming together! This is why the enemy fights our coming together through hurt feelings and every other tool he can!
The greatest commandment Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and body should be conducted every day of our lives! The second is just as important! Love your neighbors as you do yourself! That takes getting close to others! Be glad when they say, “Let us go into the house of our God with our brothers and sisters to love each other and feel his presence in a way not possible any other way!”
