Ruth Meyers ends the fifth day of “Thirty-One Days of Praise” by stating, “You (God) will always go with me, even to my old age.” I had to smile in gratitude for my life at 60. It is all I dreamed it would be at this time of my life. Full of love and laughter of family. I have now watched and enjoyed eight of my eighteen grandchildren walking into adulthood. Oh, the wonder of it all. I am comfortable living in a small three-bed brick home. I drive a good, running, air-conditioned car. My husband works hard and lets me write, paint, and chase these babies. I have one son who will be taking me on a cruise to help with our seven-year-old granddaughter next month. Another son will be sending Papa and me on a cruise for our Monday-Tuesday babysitting sessions with our youngest granddaughter. A one-year-old bundle of joy!
If you had told me during my first marriage that this would be my life at sixty, I would have said you were crazy! In my twenties, I lived on dirt floors in an old tin building. Well, really, it was more of a shack. My first husband had burned our house down. I was in the middle of exposing generational sexual abuse. That had now crept into my own family when I found a family member exposing himself to my two-year-old daughter. The battle of confronting sexual sins is onerous, and all the synonyms that follow this word. Later, I would learn my husband was guilty of the same acts. I remember talking to my dad about leaving him. He said, “You have five kids, no one is going to want you, and it will be hard on you”. I did not care; anything had to be better than what I and the children were going through. No college education, really, no work experience. I eventually broke free.
There is a verse in the bible that says, “All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord (Romans 8:28). I can see how it all worked together now! I want you to remember God is faithful to his word! I was a dedicated follower of Christ, and it was only after I broke free from my first marriage that I fell into resentment, blaming God for the attitudes of man. Eventually, God helped me find my way back to him. When I cried out in desperation. All my steps lead me to my Amazing husband at this time, who has rocked all these grandbabies with me throughout the years. My only regret is walking away from my faith for that season.
Let God author your story; do not give the pen to the enemy. And know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him (Rom 8:28). You just love God and know GOD IS FAITHFUL to his word! If it is not good, it is not over yet!!
