The Bible says the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. If you do not mind, I will give you my take on this verse. God came into a situation that was chaos (Formless, empty, and dark), much like my life. He did not trash the whole thing; he began to bring order, separating the light from the darkness. Boundaries bring order to chaos! God establishes boundaries. He is clear and concise about what he desires from us and the rewards of meeting the goals. Then he gives us freedom of choice. In this spiritual warfare where the devil would like to violate our boundaries and bring Chaos to our lives, we must demolish his arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God and take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ, according to II Corinthians 10:5.
The enemy wants us to think boundaries are restricting, but his desire is void and in darkness. God says within his borders are peace and safety. God told Adam and Eve you are free to partake of any tree in the Garden except that one in the midst of the garden, leave it alone, it is dangerous and will cause you pain and death. All through the bible you will find this saying “I put before you this day life and death, choose Life” My husband always says love always gives a choice. The abuser never does. When we do not have healthy boundaries in place our lives can feel out of order and full of chaos. God does not want to discard the pain but to bring order and shed light on it so we can learn from our experiences.
We may not know where to place those boundaries. Moses told Israel, “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey all the words of this law carefully. 47 They are not just idle words for you—they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.” God is saying the same thing to you and me! Get into the Word of God, let him take your chaos and bring order. One step at a time, one healthy boundary at a time, God will transform the chaos to order. One day, you will look around to discover the beautiful life God has built and stand in Awe! You too will want to Laud him for his goodness!
